Our Story

Middle Village was born in 2021 from a bold idea: what if empty storefronts could become launchpads for the next generation of entrepreneurs?

We imagined a vibrant hub where rising retail stars could plant roots, test their ideas, and grow with confidence. A place where entrepreneurs gain real-world business skills, sharpen their marketing savvy, build loyal customers, and learn by doing, all while bringing fresh energy to downtown. Our vision was clear and ambitious: create a downtown Lansing that truly reflects the community it serves, with a strong commitment to uplifting women- and minority-owned businesses. 

And while the dream started with us, it is powered by partnership. Downtown Lansing, Inc. manages the program and provides the space. Lake Trust Credit Union fuels the vision through generous funding. The Michigan Small Business Development Center supports entrepreneurs with expert training and resources. Together, we are not just filling storefronts. We are building opportunity.
